A New Narrative

Barriers can be inherent obstacles that prevent us from experiencing the full beauty of the world around us. Chromatic Climbers wants to shift the focus of inclusivity toward ways we can collective combat the barriers our community faces when joining and thriving within the climbing community. These barriers, as research is beginning to show us, disproportionately impacts people of color. By understanding these barriers and how they impact us individually as well as as a collective we may begin to change the landscape of inclusivity within the climbing community. Our focus is to acknowledge how we may foster alliances across these barriers and focus on inclusive means of supporting underrepresented community members.

Chromatic Climbers hosts two event formats with the purpose of allowing the full scope and diversity of the community to experience climbing. In practice, we are exploring the concept that inclusivity can take many forms and learning to respect those differences. These different forms are reflected in our event formats through a focus on the awareness that our presence and absence can impact the comfort levels of those around us. Social awareness is an important part of community building, and the climbing community is no different.

Our Events

We ask that anyone who wishes to join one of our events comes with a sense of inclusion, kindness, and interest.

People of Color (POC) Dedicated Events:

Our POC Dedicated Events focus on how we feel when starting new, and sometimes scary, experiences. We recognize that getting comfortable in new settings can often take an environment where you can see people “like you” doing it. These events hope to provide a space where usually underrepresented community members no longer feel the burden of being the minority in the climbing space; and instead, become the majority.

People of Color (POC) and Allies Events:

Our POC and Allies Events remind ourselves that we are ALL climbers. These events bring together the diverse climbing community, because when we feel ready, it’s good to see the full scope of this beautiful community. Social networks are never made in isolation.
